The new star of Gruppo Ermenegildo Zegna is expected to arrive for the grand opening of their flagship store.

It doesn’t get bigger, better or more fabulous than Tom Ford in the towering world of fashion. Unarguably considered one of the most influential designers of the last decade, Ford has been credited with literally putting the glamour back into fashion when he revamped Gucci with his fine commercial sensibility and genuine feel for fashion. What the King of High-end Sensuality is most famously known for is the sly, seductive quality of his clothes – his potent mix of sex and style that has earned him the admiration and celebrity-studded fan following that includes just about everyone, from Madonna to Gwyneth Paltrow to J Lo.

“There are many more talented designers than me,” he once told an audience at the V&A museum in London. “But I have a lot of drive and won’t let it go.”

Now Ford (after having parted ways with the Gucci Group in April 2004) is all set to bring his combustive energy to a new menswear market. Earlier this year, Ford announced a licensing agreement with the Ermenegildo Zegna Group for the production and worldwide distribution of luxury men’s ready to wear and made to measure clothing, footwear and accessories under the TOM FORD label. The label is slated for a Fall 2006 debut.

Commenting on the partnership, Ford said, “I am very excited to partner with Zegna on the production of my menswear collection. I have tremendous respect for Ermenegildo Zegna and his company. We have worked together for many years and the level of expertise and craftsmanship that Zegna produces is outstanding. They are an exceptional manufacturer and the ideal partner for this venture.”

In fact Ford is expected to arrive in Mumbai for the grand opening of the Ermenegildo Zegna flagship store later this year. “We’ll see, though it certainly is on our wish list,” is all that Rahul Prasad, MD, Ermenegildo Zegna, is willing to divulge at the moment.

Well, here’s to a fashion hallmark that’s truly worth ‘tom-tomming’ about!
